I. History

-Questions to consider: How was the application developed? How does the application work? Are there any ways to use this application alongside others?

<K. Mitchell> The site now known as 72photos was unveiled Friday, Jan 31st, 2009. It was known as something else before this time <if someone finds out what please include here> This release saw some changes to the user dashboard as well as the new connections section inside the site. This connections site allowed for comments and messages back and forth between members of the site.

72Photos has recently been cracking down and controlling the SPAM that is in the site and they are banning users who share SPAM and clearing out all of it.  This development is helping 72photos by allowing faster searching and file usage as compared to with SPAM.  The amount of time it takes to navigate through the site is much faster.

The application works by uploading images to your profile on 72photos.com and being able to edit these pictures in a number of ways.  Users can control exactly what they share with other users and make available to them.  Users can also search through photos, tag them and even upload them to Facebook or Myspace.

<K. Mitchell> This application allows you to edit your photos after placing them up on their website. Compared to some of the other photo editing sites, this application has 72 different ways to manipulate and enhance your photos with the ease of reverting back to the original photo at anytime.

<K. Mitchell> This application allows you to enhance your photos on their site and then install the Photo Stage Facebook Application onto your own personal Facebook account so that all of your friends that can see what you have been doing on 72photos.

    <Kaiti> The creator claims that his site was created to appeal to the more "mainstream and novice users", however the site does incorporate numerous features such as embedded slideshows, plugins, lots of editing tools, and ways to track your friends' and families recent updates.

    The site is possibly planning to expand its features sometime in the near future to appeal to more professionals as well.  They are considering creating ways for artists to sell their work through the site as well as making it more easy and convenient for photographers to find models.

    <Kerri> One interesting feature that 72Photos offers is a search tool that works with Firefox. By going to the website and downloading the file you are able to search directly through 72Photos from your Firefox search bar.

    <Kerri>The site has a feature that allows its visitors to not only veiw the work of other users, but it also has a unique feature that allows users to "Browse By Date." This enables users to view items that were upload throughout the entire month.

Differences between the free membership and the Pro membership ($14.95/year) are that free accounts only have 200 MB of storage space and a 10 GB/month bandwidth cap. Pro users have unlimited bandwidth and 5 GB of storage and more advanced editing features. Plus, Pro accounts are ad-free. The Pro version also offers more photomanipulation tools.

    There is a section of the website called Campfire Stories, this is were someone starts a story and other users keep adding more and more things onto the story and it basically never ends. It seems like a pretty fun concept.
