Animoto (Click link to return to the main WIKI page)

Brief Project Description:

This project was developed for the following reasons:

  • To get students to examine, explore, and investigate various types of Web 2.0 technologies, as well as discover ways to use those tools to enhance teaching and learning.
  • To have students work on a real-world, team-based problem where they need to develop skills of communication and cooperation in order to create and deliver the needed wiki repository outcome.
  • To have students gain a more global perspective, by including team members from universities around the world.
  • To develop a practical tool that helps anyone at any time and location review, compare, and select effective Web 2.0 tools.

Group Member Introductions:

*Please provide a brief introduction about yourself. Feel free to include a picture!

Hi Everyone, My name is Chloe Howerton and I'm a freshman in USP, but I'm planning on CODOing into Elem. Ed. Sorry it has taken me so long to do this and for not being in class on Wednesday, I've been out of town. I'm still kind of trying to figure out what I'm even supposed to be doing. Anyway... I went to high school at Hamilton Heights in Arcadia, IN. (close to Noblesville, if you've even heard of that). I grew up with a pretty big family, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, I have one nephew and now a brother in law. Right now I just live in Lafayette with my dad though and one sister. My past time now a days is usually spent doing homework or hanging out with my family or friends.

My name is Adam Gable. I'm a sophomore here at Purdue. I'm 21 years old. I'm currently in Mathematics Education, but am strongly considering switching to Business Management or Accounting. I enjoy swimming, boating, and gymnastics. I have two sisters, one of which is my twin. I use to hate reading, but it's my new favorite thing to do to past the time.

Hey everybody! My name is Jennie Davis, I am from Danville IN, and I am a sophmore mathematics education major. I originally started out as an actuarial science major but realized that being an actuary was not the job for me at the end of my freshman year.  So now I am happy in my math ed position :) I currently live in Wiley Hall and am living there again next year.... Gotta love dining court food! My favorite extracurricular activity that I am in is BGR.  I am a supervisor this year and I'm having a blast getting ready for BGR 2010.  Its time consuming but I love it!

My name is Matt Trabaris and I am from Naperville IL. I came to Purdue under the impression I was going to do computer science, however I decided I did not like it and after soul searching I went into math education.  I enjoy playing all different types of sports, in particular I love playing ultimate frisbee.  I have two brothers, one teaches history, and the other is still in college.

My name is Kay Nanninga. I am 19 years old and I am majoring in Special Education. I'm not sure if I'm staying in that major or not yet. I am from Chicago, Illniois and I attended Resurrection Catholic High School. I have 2 older brothers, a younger sister, and an older sister. I love to listen to country music, run, and play basketball. I also do a lot of volunteer work at home.

Hey! My name is Kaitlynn French and I'm 19 years old from North Manchester, IN. I am currently a freshman at Purdue in the Undergraduate Studies Program. I don't know what I want do in terms of a major but am considering double majoring in Political Science and Elementary Education-- maybe a minor in Interior design or something with communications. I enjoy sports (namely basketball, softball, and tennis), running, scrapbooking, and being around family and friends. I come from a big family: I have three brothers, three sisters, five nieces, and one nephew-- I am the second from the youngest among my siblings.

I will be transferring to St. Elizabeth Nursing School here in Lafayette in the Fall of 2011. I'm really looking forward to starting classes there. During the summers I work at a pshycology office, and I also raise hogs in my free time. I have a little brother that will be starting at Purdue in the fall. I am completely in love with country music. I go to many concerts over the summer in my hometown.

  3. You're welcome :)

I want to ask something about animoto research page. I guess, everybody filled in some parts, where/which part should we (me and my team friends) fill? According to what, did you decide who will fill which part?

  4. Unknown User (chowerto)

Well, first of all go to www.animoto.com and become familiar with the site. Maybe make a video yourself? It is really cool! I've made a couple 30 second videos. We all just kind of split up the work, could you and your team maybe look up some ways that animoto could be used internationally? I don't know if you know this, but this class is for education majors so we are also trying to come up with ways that animoto could be used for schools and teaching. It would great to hear your ideas about that. Just hit the edit button up on the right hand corner to edit the page and add your information. Thanks for your help :)

    1. Thank you for your answer :)

We looked up how Animoto works and made videos :) We will try to add some information about the usage of Animoto internationally and the usage of it in education as soon as possible ;)

That would be great, thanks for your help! Also, there is possibly another way you and your teammates can help out on this project in terms of the international use-- on the Animoto research page, under the subtitle international uses, Jennie Davis cited that Animoto is not yet available in any other language but users can create a short tutorial guide in another language to promote Animoto to non-english speaking people. I was brainstorming and thinking that maybe you and your teammates could create a a tutorial guide in your language on how to use Animoto and then we could include the tutorial on the Animoto webpage. I think this would be a great way to promote Animoto internationally. If you go to http://animoto.com/affiliates, scroll down on the page until you see "Go International" it explains it a little more. It costs money to create a tutorial guide but I was thinking that either I could pay for it, or we could split the cost as a team ($30).Also, by creating the tutorial guide we gain $12.00 in commission.

Let me know what you think about this idea :)

  5. hello, i'm irem.i'm in Bilkent university and CTE department student.i like to read detective novel and tale.i am sertificated diver.i love nature.

i want to know what you mean to saying tutorial guide? should we prepare a sample web page or just make a video which is useful for Turk users?

  6. better version :D

I am Irem Sak and I am from Ankara,Turkey.I am studying at Bilkent University. Academically as a student in the third year of undergraduate study for a Bachelor of Computer and Instructional Technology Teacher Education (CTE), I look to graduate study to refine my knowledge and skills in my areas of interest.Besides my academic activities,I am trying to improve myself socially and intectually, too. I am a professional diver and through diving I have a great change to travel and to contact with living nature.

It is so nice to hear from you, we are really excited to work with you! In answer to your question-- what I meant when I said tutorial guide was basically for you and your teammates to create a step by step guide showing how to use Animoto. If you go to the main Animoto wiki page, Chloe shows you step by step how to use Animoto in English-- you would be doing the same thing except translating it into your language so it will be useful for Turk users.

  7. Hi Everybody, First of all I am so sorry for being late to introduce myself. My name is Erinc Alkim Yaylali,I am 25 years old, I was born in Adana which is in the south of Turkey but  I`m living in Ankara because of my university. I am studying at Bilkent University and I`m fourth year student. My department is Computer and Instructional Technology Teacher Education which is same as with my teammates but I have more experiences about the department :) I have to graduate :) . I have one brother and he is older than me. He is a mechanical engineer. I am interested in sports. I was a windsurfer but I cannot surf because of the geograpical position of Ankara (There is no sea) so I give up. I am not unhappy because I found my favourite sport in university. Now I am playing American Football in my University team which is Bilkent JUDGES. In addition to sports I like watching movies and TV series such as super natural , prison break and dexter. I like traveling :)  I think thats all for the begining.
