Introduction

"Bottom line is that students learn better while having fun," said Jim Dachos, Education Manager for Glogster EDU. "Glogster EDU produces a creative, dynamic and innovative digital outlet that captures a learner's excitement for online creations, while keeping them engaged in course content. That makes teaching and learning fun for everyone." 13

Glogster EDU is a great education tool for teachers and students alike.  Students are allowed to express themselves creatively and demonstrate their knowledge of technology by creating an online, interactive poster called a glog.  Teachers can create a virtual classroom where each student has their own account and can submit their assignments online to the teacher.  Assignments can be posted by teachers and created by students online.  Glogster EDU makes traditional book reports and projects a thing of the past.  Students are given the chance to collaborate on projects online in a safe and secure environment.  Teachers have control over who can see the content of their students' glogs.  Glogster EDU is a fantastic, fun, and free tool for students and teachers to learn and use.

Glogster EDU Launches New Edu Basic Version

Jim Dachos, Education Manager of Glogster, unveiled its new controls for their free software called "EDU Basic" on December 1, 2009.  This basic version includes updated educator control over the students in their classroom,  the ability for the teacher to add/delete students from their master account, as well as the opportunity to edit student information such as passwords and student information.  These new features also include new graphics, more control over individual Glogs, and provide the opportunity to share Glogs with a shared public database.  "EDU Premium," the enhanced, paid version of the product came out at the end of January 2010.  For a monthly or annual fee, users have more opportunities to work with the product to enhance their students' learning experiences.  The enhanced version of this product allows teachers to have and manage multiple classrooms online.  This feature also allows the teacher to grade glogs that students submit.  In addition to these great features, "EDU Premium"  offers an extensive graphics library, a standards-based glog resource collection, and a free-hand drawing tool. 3

Using Glogster EDU with Other Applications

Glogster EDU can be used in conjunction with almost any video form and picture.  YouTube videos can be directly embedded into a glog.  It is possible to create a slide in PowerPoint, save the slide in JPEG format, and insert that picture onto the glog.  Glogster EDU also allows sound to be embedded into a glog.

Glogster EDU currently has partnerships with Discovery Education , SchoolTube , Wikispaces , Animoto , Voicethread , Voki , Edmodo , TheApple , and TeacherTube4 12

Business and Industry

The use of Glogster EDU does not have to be limited to just the classroom.  For example, businesses can create Glogster presentations just as easily as they would create a PowerPoint presentation.  Businesses can use glogs to help train employees or to educate them on a topic that may not be interesting to learn.  Glogs can be used on company websites to present information about the company itself, what it does, its employees, and much more.  The possibilities in the business world are endless!  The glogs would be an easy way to help inform potential clients of businesses because they are so easy to use in other programs such as web pages, wikis, and blogs.  Businesses would benefit from using glogs because they are easy to make, edit, and share with the world.  Glogs are a great way to get a business's name out in the market!

International Use

How Glogster EDU is used Internationally

International students and teachers can use Glogster EDU because the website allows special characters (such as accents) to be used on the Glog.  By using a font called Arial (Glog) which is found under the font menu, special characters can be used to create projects in foreign languages.  Many foreign language teachers in the United States as well as across the world have found Glogster EDU to be an important educational tool in their classrooms. 1

Glogster EDU is used in several schools around the globe.  These schools not only use this tool to teach in their native language, but also use Glogster EDU to teach English and English concepts to their students. 2

Here is an example of a glog that a teacher in Bangkok, India made to help her students learn English concepts. http://room231isb.edu.glogster.com/&nbsp
