This page contains information about the usefulness of TeacherTube outside the United States.

Questions to be addressed:

-How is TeacherTube being used outside of the United States?

TeacherTube is not really used outside of the United States, mainly because it is fairly new and is most of the videos are in English and not all countries speak English as their frist language. There are videos on TeacherTube that help people learn English and that is very helpful to learners. Most people are fimilar with YouTube and since TeacherTube is similar yet newer, people may start to familiarize themselves with it in the classroom.

-Are there any advantages that can be seen internationally that may not be present in the U.S.?

Some people use this site for studying English.  Using English in the site is one of the international advantages.  TeacherTube's productions are made from Americans who speak English and if the site makes an 'English Study Category', other non-english speaking users will go to TeacherTube more often for English education.

When comparing TeacherTube with other similar sites in Korea. It is noted that Korean sites have contents related with mainly elementary school and middle school. High school students and teachers  do use them, but the number of users in high school is less than those of elementary school's students and teachers. Also, it is difficult to find websites for Universtiy students or Professors. On the other hand, in TeacherTube's case, many various people from elementary school to the university level use the site. Therefore, TeacherTube can be used for many different people all around world.

-Are there any disadvantages that may occur internationally that are not present in the U.S.?

Not everyone speaks English, so elementary and secondary students may not understand the video unless their teacher explains everything or makes subtitles.

Each nation has it's own curriculum for schools. Curriculums in each nation may be different from U.S.  Since TeacherTube's users are mainly Americans, other countries' teacher may not be apt for their materials.  For example, when other nation's elementary school teachers find contents which are proper to their curriculum in TeacherTube, they cannot find appropriate contents in a category for "elementary" in the site. So, in order to find materials which they want, they will search all categories in the site.

-Are there any unique international features for TeacherTube?

This might be one way on  'How to make Teacher Tube international'.

1.       Make 'How to study English' for students and teachers. For example 'wrong expressions in life' or 'Grade of English study for 5 year-old child', etc.

2.       Make 'How to teach in America' for teachers. In Korea, It is usual lesson that teacher cram study for the student. So young teachers want to study more a democratic solution like American education. TeacherTube can extend educational skills of Korean (or other non-Korea country) teachers. For example, 'announcement lesson to encourage free expression of student'

And it is sad to say, in Korea there are few sites for high school and university students like TeacherTube. Though there are thousands of site providing good educational movie clips for secondary and higher students, but they are not free.  This is good chance for TeacherTube. Open space for secondary and higher education is Blue Ocean in Korea. Students in secondary and higher education are good at English in some degree. So, In this case,a language obstacle can be smaller.

-Here is a unique educational site in Korea.
http://www.batu.or.kr/

'Batu' is a media educational site for the disabled. Batu educates the disabled about 'How to make a media by oneself' and 'How to access media' using various UCC. Furthermore it offers a lot of information for the disabled using UCC, too. Because, in Korea, getting a good job is not easy for the disabled.
This site shows -
1.       Teacher Tube can teach for the disabled, too.
2.       Teacher Tube can give new helpful information from Americans to Koreans for the disabled.

  1. At lest in Korea, I've never heard of  TeacherTube. But I know Youtube and I sometimes used some videoclips from there for my lesson plans. I think because it hasn't been long since it has launched. However, I think there will be a lot of difficulty in using them in Korean schools even if they could be useful. As Korea doesn't use English as first language, elementary and scondary student will not be able to understant the video unless the teacher explains everything or makes subtitles. Maybe University students could understand. Foe example, in one of my class, the students who made presentation on Piaget, they used some videoclips from Youtube. Also, I think that it is very unique that everyone upload videos and share them. In our country, we can usually find videos made by teachers or the Office of Education.

  2.   I think that TeacherTube is unfamiliar in Korea too. But I think that TeacherTube has some unique international features. For example, Koreans are interested in studying English. For this project, I found TeacherTube on some search engines in my country. Then, I discovered that some person uses the site for studying English. Because TeacherTube's contents are produced in English, they go to TeacherTube. Using English in the site is one of international advantages. Therefore, by using that TeacherTube's productions are made from Americans who speak English, if it makes 'English study category', other non-English users will go to TeacherTube more than now for English education.

  3.  Just before, I found some sites that are similar to TeacherTube!! So, I compared TeacherTube with other similar sites in Korea. First, usually, Korean sites have contents related with elementary school and middle school. High school students and teachers use them. But, the number of users is not as many as elementary school students and teachers. Also, I couldn't find sites for college or university students or professor. On the other hand, in TeacherTube's case, many various people from elementary school to university use the site. Therefore, TeacherTube will be used for many various people all around world.

Second, some Korean sites treat videos which shot real lessons in school. I think it is so helpful teacher. Because they can watch more effective lessons though these videos, teachers can discover better methods to teach and practice them. So, I think that if these real lessons treated on TeacherTube internationally, it can enable to share more various methods to teach.
If you have remaining time, I think that visiting these sites is good~. (smile)

However, because these are made from Korean language, maybe you can't understand perfectly...  (sad) So, I write down a bit of explanation...(smile)

    http://ucc.busanedu.net/index.html

: This site consists of recommended UCC, UCC movies and UCC images.(Green part in index page) And, its contents contain materials for students, teacher, parents, writing essay and career counseling for students.

    http://www.uccedu.co.kr/

: I think that this site has most materials for education. It has best lessons in class UCC, materials for education videos, UCC which treated events in school, UCC for physical education. However, its target is limited for elementary school students and teacher.

    Hey guys,

Thanks so much for your feedback! This is really GREAT information! We'll work on moving your comments up into the body of the wiki. If you click on the "Edit" button in the top right hand corner you can add information directly to the wiki if you think about it from now on. Whatever you are most comfortable with is really great, though. You are doing a great job! Thanks!!!

    Awesome Job!!!

    1. As Sagnmi said, I agree that TeacherTube using English can be both advantage and disadvantage. So, first, I added other infromations to the wiki.

However, if contents aren't good (and... maybe, English expression is awkward too), please correct it~

Also, I thought that contents which I wrote are long... But, I find out that it's so short... (sad)

I will go on adding other good contents to the wiki~(big grin)

  5. Looking at Seul-Ki's comment and mine, I think that TeacherTube in English could be an advantage and disadvantage at the same time, Can this be an international feature fot TeacherTube?

  6. I agree that Teacher Tube has advantages because of English. Korean students and teachers are very interested in English.

I add some opinions to Seul-Ki's thought. I think English movie clips about 'How to educate students' is different from movie clips about 'How to study English'. Korea students want 'How to study English'. But In Teacher Tube, there are many movie clips about 'How to educate students'. If there are Korean teachers who are interested in international method of teaching for development in teaching skill, they reference Teacher Tube.

So, this is my opinion about 'How to make international Teacher Tube'.

    1.       Make 'How to study English' for students and teachers, just like Seul-Ki said. For example 'wrong expressions in life' or 'Grade of English study for 5 years-old child'...

    2.       Make 'How to teach in America' for teachers. In Korea, It is usual lesson that teacher cram study for student. So young teachers want to study more democratic solution like American education. Teacher Tube can extend educational skills of Korean (or other non-Korea country) teachers. For example, 'announcement lesson to encourage free expression of student'

And sad to say, in Korea there are few sites for high school and university students like Teacher Tube. Though there are thousands of site providing good educational movie clips for secondary and higher students, but they are not free.
This is good chance for Teacher Tube. Open space for secondary and higher education is Blue Ocean in Korea. Students in secondary and higher education are good at English in some degree. So, In this case, language obstacle can be smaller.

  7. And here is unique educational site in Korea.

    1.       Teacher Tube can teach for disabled, too.
