History">History

Khan Academy started from an idea that a man, Sal Khan, had to tutor his niece who was struggling in mathematics at seventh grade level. Since he did not live anywhere near her, he decided to tutor her over video monitoring and different application. Soon, it successfully caught her up and then even put her ahead of the other students in the class. After this, he began to tutor her brothers in different subjects through the same technology. Word soon got around about this type of tutoring and people were clamoring for his videos. As he started to produce more videos, he eventually started to take more of his time up and started to become his full time job. What was an original grassroots operation has now grown to over 3000 videos and several full time employees that work on the site.

Demonstration of Educational Value">Demonstration of Educational Value

Khan Academy is a great source of technology. It allows students to practice different activities and tells them if they solved it correctly. Students can also watch videos that explain different processes. It is very relevant for teachers to use khanacademy.org to help students gain a better understanding for the topics discussed in class. Parents can even have their children practice khanacademy.org at home and when a student seems to be struggling in a particular area. Teachers would not have to grade the assignments either because the website does it for you. Khan academy would make a great addition to technology in the classroom. People can learn so much through using Khan Academy. After discovering that Khan Academy had various math topics, it helped explain a complex math problem that one of our own group members could not figure out of his or her own. The lesson plans created for use with Khan Academy not only teach the children simple addition but it would also teach them how to use the computer to do their math assignments on Khan Academy. It also helps to complete the Indiana Standard for Kindergarten Math Computation along with other standards. Children will easily be able to use the same website to understand simple subtraction to fully complete the standard. Overall, this website would be really effective and efficient to use in this lesson plan.
