Hey guys!!

So, this is the space where I am supposed to write a little bit about myself (project manager) and we are all supposed to add our minimum of three postings about        Pixenate.  Please remember to post the comments here, and NOT on the main Pixenate page.  The main Pixenate page is where our final project will end up being. So, a little about myself......My names Maggie and I am a sophomore in Early Childhood Ed with Sign language and Special Needs.  I am a gymnastics coach and have               been a gymnast my whole life. I also love to watch Boilermaker basketball and football, especially when we win,(smile) haha . My favorite show to watch is Paula Deen on the Food Network. I love cooking, traveling, spending time with my family, and the summertime!

Maggie's postings (could be used under the chapters about the purpose of the application and how it works):

    1. Pixenate is a downloadable software that allows the user to change the appearance of photos to better enhance

them and customize them to each individuals needs (http://pixenate.com/productinfo/)

    2. Pixenate can be used for anything, but some examples would be to share photos among friends, upload/change

photos for classifieds, or used for a business website (http://pixenate.com/productinfo/).

    3. Because Pixenate can be downloaded to your computer via software the appearance of Pixenate can be changed via different

    themes or "skins" (http://pixenate.com/productinfo/).

    4. No plugins or additional downloads are needed with Pixenate. This means that users of the product can get creating

& creative with their photos quicker (http://pixenate.com/productinfo/).

      Maggie,

Does it mean that users need to download Pixenate each time if they change their computers? For example, I work from my home computer with Pixenate and when I want to keep working in lab in BRNG, I should download it again?

      1. Unknown User (sayler)

Yes, you do have to download the product.  The web-servers such as firefox, safari, opera, and internet 6 and above can be used to download Pixenate.

    Hillary Cherry's comments:

    1. Pixenate is the photo editor of choice for photo printing and photo sharing businesses.

    2. Pixenate has a fairly uncomplicated interface, with all options clustered on the left as icons.

You can start playing with it as soon as you first land on its homepage, with the random sample photo that appears.

A basic text box browse button lets you pick a file on your system to upload and edit.

There's also an Import to Pixenate bookmark available, which you can simply drag to your browser links

for a way to edit any web page image you come across. With the bookmarklet installed,

when you go to a web page with images on it and click the Import to Pixenate link,

you get a numbered list of all the images on the page; you can click on any one of them for editing.

Pixenate offers 18 tools (8 of which are initially hidden under the link Show fun effects),

but they can make a big difference in your pictures appearance. Here they are:

    Tools:

    • Enhance---a general picture improver to boost colors, reduce noise, and smoothen faces.
    • We'd like to have seen some controls over how much it does each of these optimizations.
    • Fill light---an automated light booster with no controls.
    • Crop--includes presets for typical photo sizes--4x6, 5x7, 8x10, and square.
    • Resize
    • Rotate
    • Spirit level---for straightening pictures with horizons.
    • Red eye correction---At first it can be a little tricky aligning the correction box,
    • and once we ended up with a blue pupil.
    • Whiten--for teeth--no brushing or trays required!
    • Sepia
    • Colors---One of the few tools with some controls. For some reason brightness,

saturation, and hue get slider controls, while contrast is relegated to integer adjustments up to plus or minus 3.

Also, the changes are shown in the small detail of the image, but not live in the whole image.

    3. Pixenate is a white-label photo editing solution that can be customized

for inclusion into other social networks and websites.

Pixenate’s services can also be included in a photo management workflow.

From an editing standpoint, Pixenate offers its users similar functionality when compared

     to similar online solutions.

    4. One of Pixenate’s great strengths is its extensibility and the flexibility it provides to website operators.

Pixenate is designed first-and-foremost with photo-merchandising in mind.

If you own or operate a photo-merchandising website, you know that the process

of acquiring and processing user-submitted photos for use in custom products

is fraught with peril. Every step the user takes between uploading the photo/s and turning

them into custom products, can be a point at which the user just walks away.

This can happen if they find the process too cumbersome or complicated or if

there are simply too many steps in the process. This results in lost revenue.

Streamlining the process of uploading and editing photos to simplify and reduce

the number of steps necessary can really help boost revenue and convert casual

    visitors to paying customers.

    5. Pixenate is online photo editing software that you can use stand-alone or integrate

into an existing photo-sharing or photo-printing Web site. If you provide a photo-based Web service,

Pixenate can significantly enhance the stickiness of your Web site by offering an

easy-to-use integrated photo editor that doesn't require your users to

    download and install additional software.

    Ashley's comments:

    1. Pixenate is an online photo editing gallery used for editing, sharing, and printing pictures. It was one of the first applications that poeple could use instead of expensive software. It is used for personal use and also a top choice for businesses.+http://www.squidoo.com/online-image-editing-review+

2.Pixenate is fairly limited in both its import and export options. Users can upload images from their computer, use an existing URL and, more recently, integrate with user Facebook accounts to edit and adjust images already uploaded to the account using the Pixenate app.+http://online-image-editing-review.toptenreviews.com/pixenate-review.html+

3.Pixenate has a fairly detailed “about” section, but it is directed largely towards software and web-based businesses that are in need of an image-editing service. However, the product info section does have an excellent browser compatibility tool, which is a critical tool for web-based applications like Pixenate and other online image editing programs.+http://online-image-editing-review.toptenreviews.com/pixenate-review.html+

    6. What can you use the application for?
Pixenate is an online photo editing application. You can upload a photo and fully edit it.
After you are finished, you can save it to your computer or to Flickr.
What is the history and popularity of the application?
Pixenate is owned by Sxoop Technologies. This Irish company is founded by Walter Higgins
in 2005 and Pixenate is their major product. They also sell Pixenate to other online photo
websites to integrate it as their photo editor.
What are the differences to other applications?
Pixenate only offers photo editing and nothing else, no storage or sharing.
How does the application look and feel to use?
Pixenate looks simple and is simple to use. All the functions you expect are there and
everything can be undone. We found that the website responded a bit slowly.
How does the registration process work?
Pixenate doesn't require any registration. This isn't necessary since the application doesn't store the photos.
What does it cost to use the application?
Pixenate is free to use and makes money by allowing other websites to use the tool for $599 US Dollars.
Who would you recommend the application to?
Pixenate only offers editing which might be convenient if you just want to edit a photo on your computer
without installing anything or if your photo storage application doesn't have good editing tools. Pixenate Features

    • Spirit level, Red-eye, Sepia and Whiten effects
    • Upload to Flickr or MySpace

    1. Pixenate.com is your average photo editing application.  You hace the standard tools that allow you to: crop, rotate, resize, zoom, enhance, fill light, reduce red eye, whiten, change to sepia, etc...

    2. First choose the image you would like to edit, then edit your image accordingly. Once your image is done you can either save it to a disk or upload it to flickr. There is a new option which is posting the image onto your MySpace. You can play around with the photo you find on the homepage and see exactly what you can do at Pixenate.com.

    1. Pixenate makes photo-centric websites more useful by embedding simple photo-editing directly in your website.

to edit those photos too.  (http://www.xomreviews.com/pixenate.com)

    2. Pixenate supports all major browsers such as Internet Explorer (6.0+), Safari, Firefox, and Opera.

is aimed at Social Networking and other community-driven websites which require basic photo-editing features

but for whom monetising their photo inventory through custom photo products is not a priority. Premium Edition

provides additional editing tools such as overlays (clip-art, speech-bubbles etc), Text and Freehand Drawing, and

    is aimed at photo-merchandising websites.

    Hi, everyone

Thanks for posting the first findings - they all seem appropriate for the wiki chapter. But I would recommend you before posting - find which category in wiki chapter this information could go to, for example, how to use Pixenate. By giving the title for your information you will make first draft writing easier next week. Please do not repeat others' information, try to find unique one. Thank you.

Please organize all you research stuff into a notebook file under the title "research-jaycut" by breaking all those pieces into sections. Then, attach it to this research page. This helps you develop wiki page next week.

This is the outline for notebook file:
    a. What is the title of the application? Who developed it?
    b. What is the purpose of the application (that is, what does it do)?
    c. How does it work? Briefly, what does one have to do to start using it?
    d. How is it related to other applications (that is, can it be used in
    conjunction with other applications)?
    e. What are some unique ways of using this application?
    f. How could the application be used within an educational/learning
situation? For example, generate multiple content area lesson plans for
    each of the following areas:
    1) elementary
    2) secondary
    3) post secondary
NOTE: Within each of these areas (i.e., elementary, secondary, post
secondary), a minimum of one of the lesson plans must be based on the
STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics).
    g. How could the application be used within a business/industry training
    situation?
    h. What are some examples (e.g., web sites) of it being used to illustrate its
current educational value or potential value?
    i. For a more global perspective, how could this application be used in other
countries? Are there unique features of the application that may be more
relevant to those outside of the US?
