General lnformation about is a Web 2.0 tool that is used for a number of different purposes. One purpose of is to make it easy to post webpage links to social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Digg, etc. This tool is also used to share more links with friends by email and other internet communication devices. makes it simple to save links and bookmark pages that make it easy to save your place and return to the site whenever. You can save it to your toolbar and customize the title of the link as well.

Anyone who has access to the internet through a Mac or PC or other devices such as an iPhone or iPod Touch can use and will find it an easy and efficient way to share links.

This tool is ideal for users of iPhone and iPod Touches where the copy and paste tool is not always an option. It is very simple to get an account with and easy to install into the toolbar of your Mac or PC if needed.

I. History

I.1 Development 

Smub stands for: smart multi-use bookmarking. This application was developed in France from a “smub” team of three individuals.

Thierry Lamouline (the CEO of is an internet pioneer and founder of three internet companies since 2000, and is dedicated to making the Web simpler to use and more connected with the real world. Thierry has a wife and two daughters and enjoys all outdoor activities.

Cyril Balas is the chairman of the company and has founded or run at least a half-dozen companies ranging from programming services to state-of-the-art medical labs. Cyril is an avid traveler, cross-country skier, and lives a full life with his wife, two sons, and a daughter.

Stephane Petrot is a veteran in global network architecture and systems optimization. When he is not working with the team, he enjoys all outdoor sports.

I.2 How Works

To get started bookmarking with Smub, register for a free account.  Once you're registered, you can begin bookmarking your favorite links.  To bookmark a link:

1)  Smub it by typing "" before the http in your browser's address bar or by using Smub's bookmarklets, toolbar or right-click-to-smub function.

2)  Once you smub your link, you'll be presented with several icons for your favorite social networking sites, your email and your bookmarks.  Click the bookmark icon to save the bookmark to your account.

3)  You can then name your bookmark and add keyword tags and comments.

With, once you register it is ideal to keep yourself logged in so that your username and password are not necessary every time you wish to add a new link. makes it simple to post webpage links to sites such as Facebook and Twitter as well as quickly sharing links via text and e-mail without needing copy and paste buttons. allows users to make links private so confidential information is not shared with other users.  For example, users should keep links to online banking and online bill payment sites private.  Once a bookmark has been made with, it is simple to retrieve by logging in, and clicking on 'My Bookmarks'. II. How to Join and How Relates to Other Applications

II.1 How to Join is very easy to access and use.  All a user must do is go to the website and download the toolbar onto a computer or iPhone.  Once is downloaded, users are able to access it by simply right clicking on the information they want bookmarked and the toolbar will lead them through the short and easy process.

II.2 Comparison to Competitors

People may ask why is better than every other application on the internet. toolbar allows users to easily bookmark and share links with friends and family.  No longer will they have to type long monotonous websites because you can share and create bookmarkers.  When they find a site that they like, they just need to bookmark it.  Once bookmarked, users can easily access and share with friends, family, and many others. is very simple and straightforward, which also means that there are very few (if any) competitors.  There is one web 2.0 application, however, that is similar to, which is Zazna.  Instead of bookmarking the url, Zazna allows you to highlight the needed content on the website and bookmark it.

II.3 Unique Uses has many unique and beneficial applications.  One of the unique features of Smub is it easy bookmarking. bookmarking can be done by anyone because all it takes is a click.  Even people who struggle with technology will be able to use since it is easy to learn and once a site is bookmarked it can be shared with whomever.  Some people struggle with technology, but bookmarking is easy to learn and once you have a site bookmarked you can share it with whomever.  

Another unique feature of is the iPhone application.  With this app, you can easily bookmark any page at any time on the go. can easily be downloaded onto your iPhone, iPod Touch, and Mac or PC computer

How could the application be used within a business? is not only for college students because this program can be used in the business world as well.  When making a speech or presentation about your business, bookmarking can be very beneficial.  With the quick and easy bookmarking, you will be able to save and access sites quickly and fluently while presenting.  As a result, there is very little down time.  Also after a speech, you could easily share your links and ideas by the use of because it only takes a click to share files.

IV. Demonstration of Educational Value

How could the application be used within an educational or learning situation? allows for teachers and students to easily share links, ideas, and information with each other.  This makes it a faster and more efficient method compared to typing or writing out the url.  If a computer teacher wants to show a class a website that he/she has bookmarked, he/she can easily share the link with everyone in class so that they can easily access the site and see it on their computer in front of them. 

What are some examples of it being used to illustrate its current educational value?

  • For a group project, using allows the group members to share url's to websites that they found for their project with one-another.  It makes it easy for students to email, text, and even blog, the webpage that they wish to show their group. 
  • For teachers who wanted to share with his/her students the url to a webpage, they could easily send the link through email by using makes it much easier to put the link in the email by using just a click of the mouse.

How is the application used in other countries? What are some unique ways of using this application? is a bookmarking tool.  However, it's just not a bookmarking tool.  When you make a bookmark, you can also post these bookmarks to online networks such as Facebook and Twitter.  This is beneficial because the user can share important information with others just by bookmarking and posting it for others to see.
