This is our research page. This is where you post the research for our application (YAZZEM). This is an important section in this project. Before Sunday, this is where you will post your three research items. Each research item must be different than anyone else's or it won't count towards your individual points.

List of Roles and Responsibilities:
1.) Project manager: oversees project (Jenny, Yevgenia)
2.) Researchers: analyze and synthesize the Web 2.0 Product Information, research everything about the application, how it works, how it could be used in education, how it has been used in other settings, etc., research literature that has been written about the application (Courtney, Hanna)
3.) Instructional Designers: outline the goals of the project and the set up the key instructional activities for Yazzem and the showcase, design key pieces for the full project:what is to be included, how many examples, how to structure graphics, use of video, etc (Lauren)
4.)Writers: actually write the major portion of the chapter, use material given to them from the researchers, work closely with the researchers and designers to make sure everything possible is covered in an understandable manner (Trista, Mallory)
5.)Evaluators: Those who will look over the written work and make all kinds of suggestions, in charge of evaluating the performance of other groups at the showcase, report via written evaluations about what has been accomplished, what worked and what could be improved, what those improvements could possibly be, etc (Caitlyn)
6.) Marketing: determine how to best "sell" the product for the showcase, how to get attention both for the Wiki chapter and the showcase presentation
7.) Connectors...

WIKI Chapter Outline:

a. What is the title of the application? Who developed it?
b. What is the purpose of the application (that is, what does it do)?
c. How does it work? Briefly, what does one have to do to start using it?
d. How is it related to other applications (that is, can it be used in
conjunction with other applications)?
e. What are some unique ways of using this application?
f. How could the application be used within an educational/learning
situation? For example, generate multiple content area lesson plans for
each of the following areas:
1) elementary
2) secondary
3) post secondary
NOTE: Within each of these areas (i.e., elementary, secondary, post
secondary), a minimum of one of the lesson plans must be based on the
STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics).
g. How could the application be used within a business/industry training
situation?
h. What are some examples (e.g., web sites) of it being used to illustrate its
current educational value or potential value?
i. For a more global perspective, how could this application be used in other
countries? Are there unique features of the application that may be more
relevant to those outside of the US?

"My name is Dustin Snider I am one of the founders(Co-Founder) here at Yazzem. Yazzem's core platform is in a way based off of Twitter but the difference is we add a fourm like feel to it. Yazzem allows you to start topics about anything you want. Then others can join your topic to connect and discuss about it in 140 characters or less. Yazzem was founded on June 08, 2009 by Zachary Collins (Founder, CEO) and Dustin Snider (Co-Founder)with a goal to provide a way for everyone to be able to discuss topics in a quick and easy form while being organized. Yazzem is based upon the 4 main features Topics, Latest Activity, Status Updates & Profile's. Yazzem is still far from being as large as Twitter but is making small steps and each step is growing the userbase larger and larger. In August we launched 2.0 when we did this we added a Redesign, Latest Activity, Designs, & Vanity URL'send it to."

      Jenn,

You may break this piece of information into sections according to WIKI chapter - which to go to. This makes your work next week easier. Thanks.

Yazzem allows you to start topics about anything you want. Then others can join your topic to connect and discuss about it in 140 characters or less. (yazzem.com)

Yazzem, the simple topic creator for Twitter or FriendFeed, has launched version 2 of their online service. Yazzem allows you to start topics about anything you want, basically creating a new way to interact with both Twitter and FriendFeed. Once the topics have been created, anyone can join your topic to connect and discuss about it in 140 characters or less. Yazzem launched in June 2008, and has picked up quite a user base for a very specific core audience.

Launching in version 2 of Yazzem is a redesign of the Yazzem site, themes that users can choose from for their page, and latest activity streams for all your friends. Also launching with this version is subscribers, which is similar to Twitter followers or FriendFeed subscribers. Another key feature that is launching is user stats, so now users will be able to see information like number of subscribers and activities a particular user has deciding whether or not to subscribe to them. Yazzem also launched a new moble version of Yazzem which is basically just a redesign of the old mobile version that fits much better for iPhone and iPod Touch users when browsing on the go. It’s unclear how Yazzem will make money, but for such a young company, Yazzem does show some promising features and a future. (http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/08/31/yazzem-version-2-latest-activity/)

  5. Unknown User (carr4)

Common people that use Yazzem are in their early 20s. They are opionated people.

This is a new platform for microblogging. It allows anybody to start topics about anything he or she might want. The idea is to enable any person to microblog without having to worry about any technical issue or consideration – as they put it, Yazzem is devised in a way that “even a caveman could do it”.
I admit that the approach is quite on the spot. Although Twitter is a simple idea and anybody can get started easily, the waters have been slightly mudded by some concepts such as retweeting, hashtags and so forth. Granted, these are not hard to grasp in the slightest, but some people might become confused along the way. That is where applications and tools such as this one come in. Twitter integration - Since you can update your status on Yazzem, we thought it would be cool if you could have those updates posted to Twitter, too. So, now you can connect your Yazzem account with Twitter by going into Settings > Twitter > and then entering your Twitter credentials.

@mentions - An @mention is when you mention/reply to someone in a comment or status update by putting an @ symbol before their username. So, for example, @dustin would link to Dustin Snider’s profile. You can keep track of all your mentions by going to the new Mentions page, found in the navigation.

Status Comments - Status updates now show a link called ‘comment’, which allows anyone to leave a thought on a status.

Latest Activity Filter - We noticed that the Latest Activity timeline can become crowded with updates about topics. So, we created a filter that filters out the updates you don’t want to see. Meaning, you can view just statuses, or just topic updates.

The ability to delete comments/statuses - We added a small blue trashcan next to your comments/statuses, just in case you make a mistake, etc.

  7. Unknown User (carr4)

After viewing the website, the topics most talked about are aim/twitter, skype, itunes, and the weather.

  8. Yazzem is a new and improved version of Twitter.  It's purpose is to pretty much just talk with people from around the world who are also on Yazzem.  It allows you to put up a new 'topic' and for people to comment on it if they want.  It has the same feel of Twitter, but is not exactly like it.  Since Yazzem is a new application, it is still in the early stages.  Yazzem is also something that is able to be used in the classroom.

    1. Unknown User (lolesova)

      Lauren,

This is a good finding. However, I am trying to understand the difference between two platforms: YAZZEM and Twitter. You said that it is the same of Twitter, but not exactly like it. I think we need more ot add here. I will read others' comments - to check it. Thank you for the comment.

  9. Yazzem is very close in application to Twitter and all of the other forum like pages.  It is just a website to put your thoughts on, and a place to talk about what you want to hear feedback on from other people.

    Introducing Yazzem 2.0!

Category: news, release, Tags: 2.0, launch, techcrunch

Today, we are very excited to announce the official launch of Yazzem 2.0! This version brings in many new features, including a new redesign, Latest Activity, and designs.

The Redesign - After much planning, we decided a new redesign would definitely fit the launch of 2.0. This new look brings in new functionality, such as designs you can choose from.

Latest Activity - This is the main feature 2.0 was built around. Latest Activity brings in the real-time feel to Yazzem, so you know when people (you subscribe to) start new topics, join topics, and what their latest status is.

Designs - Yes, you read that right. Just go to Settings > Design > and choose a theme to further customize Yazzem to your likings.

A Minor Detail - URL’s will now link so you can share links to a website or article you found. After using the new 2.0, you will notice some other minor improvements too.

Yazzem can be used for elementary teachers. They can create a topic and make it private. They log on for their students and they can go up one at a time and write their name and comment on the topic.

    1. Unknown User (lolesova)

      Trista, hi

Could you put references here? Thanks.

      1. Unknown User (troysdon)

there isnt a reference for this. I was told i didnt need one. It was an idea we could use for the education thing.

        1. Unknown User (lolesova)

OK, Trista - thanks for the reply

    2. Unknown User (troysdon)

this would be used for education

  12. Unknown User (carr4)

    How to get started:

first go to yazzem. com and sign-up for a username and password.

once you are logged in,  you can post a status or post topics for people around the world to comment on.

you can search topics and comment on other people's topics, too. You are able to invite and suscribe to people that you know or that have things in common with you.

  13. Unknown User (meyer13)

More History: Yazzem is a company with only 3 employees. The headquarters is in Greater Grand Rapids, Michigan.

  14. Unknown User (troysdon)

A secondary teacher can go and have the students use their email and create an account. MAke a private topic, and invite her students to use the topic and have them leave comments. Maybe they can use it as a daily journal thing.

    1. Unknown User (troysdon)

      used for education

    2. Unknown User (lolesova)

Daily journal sounds interesting. Have you heard anything about blogging journals in classroom? I think we should check it too. Thanks for the great comment.

  15. Unknown User (wagner19)

VOCAB: On the top of the website there are many different links that bring you to different parts of the website. The first one says Home. When clicking on the home page one is brought to the main screen. From here one may post a status, see your topics, logout, or subscribe to other people.

  16. Most people don't think that websites like Yazzem can be used in the classroom, but I think they are wrong.  If someone were to observe a classroom debate, they would be going bak and forth between people, just like Yazzem.  Yazzem could be used for many different lesson plans.  If it were a debate, all the teacher would have to do is put up the 'topic' and then their students would be able to comment.  Yes, the students would have to have access to the internet, and have an account with Yazzem, but it is just another way to incorporate Yazzem into the classroom.

    1. Unknown User (lolesova)

      Lauren,

This is a great idea of using debates - just keep it in mind when your group will develop lesson plans.

  17. Unknown User (wagner19)

VOCAB: another link one may click on when on this website is start new topic. After clicking on this one is brought to a page where one can control what their topic is, the privacy of the topic, the description of their topic, and some keywords. After one is done filling in these things, he/she can click done, and their topic will be posted.

  18. Unknown User (troysdon)

If ytou go into your setting on your account the tjhings you post on your yazzem can be posted on your twitter too.

      about site

      1. Unknown User (lolesova)

This sounds really interesting. Does it mean that YAZZEM is a branch of Twitter? How are they different? Someone already mentioned it above. I should check it.

  19. Unknown User (wagner19)

VOCAB: When one clicks on the search link, the latest topics from the website come up. One may click on the topics, read through the replies, and add their own replies if desired. One can also search for specific topics.

  20. Unknown User (carr4)

Yazzem reminds me of myspace. You can load your own picture, have a background and comment on many profile's topics.  When the topics have been created, anyone can join your topic to connect and discuss

    Eduational Values-

Yazzem would give this students a chance to see other people's point of view on a certain topic. If they need help understanding something, they can post it and then they can get help from someone else that isn't their teacher. They then may be able to understand it better coming from someone else. The teacher could also post a question on there and have his/her students post comments on it for a grade. More like an online discussion.

Me : Tell us about your background and role in your company.Zachary Collins : My name is Zachary Collins and I am a 14 year old web geek who loves creating websites. I am the creator and founder of Yazzem.com, and I must say, it is by far the most exciting project I have worked on. However, I also created Twtbase.com, a Twitter Application Database, and also home to the world’s very first Twitter App SearchEngine
    . In July, 2009, I sold it for $1850.

    1. Unknown User (lolesova)

      That's interesting - 14 year old?

  24. Unknown User (troysdon)

Yazzem can also be in a businesss. They could make a topic and make it private and kind of use it as a meeting place. They could make comments about things at work that need improved and things.

    1. Unknown User (lolesova)

That's intersting too - how to use in Business Meetings.

  25. Unknown User (lolesova)

    Hi, everyone

Thanks for posting the first findings - they all seem appropriate for the wiki chapter. But I would recommend you before posting - find which category in wiki chapter this information could go to, for example, how to use Yazzem. By giving the title for your information you will make first draft writing easier next week. Please do not repeat others' information, try to find a unique one. Also, when you post the information - please add references, then it will be difficult to search for them. Thank you.

  26. Unknown User (ctroxel)

Yazzem is almost like twitter. It is a blogging website where anyone can make an account and post anything ur heart desiers. You can post a topic just like twitter and then other people can go in a comment on your topic.

    1. Unknown User (lolesova)

I haven't registered to YAZZEM yet, Courtney - but if I am a TWITTER subsriber, can I use the same login to YAZZEM? Just a curious question before going to YAZZEM.

  27. Unknown User (ctroxel)

Yazzem lets you log on and express your opinions about a certain topic. If you had a great experience one day and wanted to share it with someone you can post it on yazzem and other people are able to comment on it and tell you what they think. If you have a certain question you can't figure out, you can post a topic and other people can give you their opinions. You can also comment on someone else's post and give them your two cents.

    1. Unknown User (lolesova)

      Coutrney,

If someone posted to YAZZEM, can I know about a new posting from my mail box? Does YAZZEM send notification to email or not? Should I go to YAZZEM each time when I need to read the news and want to talk?

  28. Yazzem takes the concept of message boards and blends it with the concept of Twitter. On Twitter you see a constant stream of messages from all of your network about any possible topic. On Yazzem conversations are held under topic headings.

    1. Unknown User (lolesova)

      Zhenya,

Do you have references for this piece of information? It is very important.

  29. Unknown User (lolesova)

Please organize all you research stuff into a notebook file under the title "research-jaycut" by breaking all those pieces into sections. Then, attach it to this research page. This helps you develop wiki page next week.

This is the outline for notebook file:

  30. YAZZEM can be used by a class to provide instant feedback to a teacher. Set up a topic like "ask Mr.Byrne" and students could submit their questions while a conversation is going on in the room. The same idea could be used by students to ask questions from home or anywhere outside of the classrom.

  31. Unknown User (ctroxel)

Facebook has the application that says what's on your mind. This is where you can type exactly what it says...what is on your mind. With Yazzem this is almost the same thing. You type what is on your mind and other people can respond to it. Whether it is something that happened in the news and you just wanted to get it off your chest or if it is just something amazing that happened to you that day, you can write about it and it allows other people that are your friends to see what is on your mind and possibly respond to it.
