Dinosaurs Lesson Plan

Overview

  • The purpose of this lesson is for students to learn about dinosaurs.

  • A scientist from the American Museum of Natural History in Chicago will take a video showing and describing different dinosaurs and then stream it to Qik.

Objective

The teacher will measure what the students have learned by:

  •   Having them color and portray a picture of their favorite dinosaur.
  •   They should include pictures that demonstrate the characteristics of their favorite dinosaur.

Material

  •     Textbooks
  •     Markers
  •     Colored Pencils

Procedure

-          The teacher will use the textbook to teach the students about different kinds of dinosaurs.
-          Following the textbook lesson, the students will be able to view a video of dinosaurs in the American Museum of Natural History in Chicago with the use of Qik.
-          The scientist will talk about and show different dinosaurs and share with the students the different characteristics they have.
-          This is a step-by-step process that will help the students get the best understanding about different dinosaurs.
-          Since Chicago would be a long planned, expensive field trip for the school, the teacher will utilize the technology of Qik to teach the students a lesson about dinosaurs.
-          With the application of Qik, a scientist from the museum will make a video explaining and showing different dinosaurs.  He will then stream the video to the internet for the students to view and discuss.
-          The purpose of the video is to give the students a better understanding of dinosaurs and the ability to see what the structure of a dinosaur look like.   The teacher could use the "live chat" that Qik offers, with this application the students could direct questions to the scientist and he could answer them accordingly.
-          The students should learn the names of a few different dinosaurs and be able to recognize the different characteristics of each.

Evaluation

-          The students will be given a worksheet to test what they have learned.
-           After the lesson, and the viewing of the Qik video, the student will be given a piece of paper with pictures of dinosaurs and their names scrambled.
-          The students will have to match the picture with the correct name of the dinosaur.
-          They should be able to complete this correctly.  If there is confusion, the class will review and discuss the questions together.

 Four Seasons Lesson Plan

Overview

-          The purpose of this lesson will be for elementary students to understand the difference between the four seasons.
-          The students should learn how each season effects the environment in different ways.

Objective

-          The teacher will measure what the students have learned by giving them a picture of four blank trees.
-          The students' job will be to portray what a tree would look like in each season.
-          Example: In the season of summer, the student could make the tree full of green leaves.

Material

-          Markers
-          Colored Pencils

Procedure

-          First, the teacher will educate the students about each individual season.
-          The teacher will talk to them about different activities people could take part in during that time and ask them questions about what comes to their mind when they think about a    specific season.
-           After the lesson, the teacher could use Qik videos that portray different themes that relate to each season.  The teacher could show parts of these videos and relate it back to class discussion.
-          The teacher could also take a video and stream it to the internet using Qik.  The teacher could take a video of the current season and direct it to her class.
-          The teacher could talk about the effects the season has on nature and even ask questions in the video for the students to answer.

Evaluation

-          The students will each be given a "multiple choice" worksheet.
-          They will have to read each question and pick the season they believe is correct.

 Mammals Lesson Plan

Overview

-          The purpose of this lesson is for student to learn about mammals.
-          The students should be familiar with characteristics of mammals at the end of the lesson.

Objective

-          The teacher will measure what the students have learned by giving them a worksheet with pictures and having them circle which animals are mammals.

Material

-          Students' will learn the characteristics of mammals (what makes an animal a mammal?).
-          Teacher will cover what trait an animal has to have to be classified as a mammal.
-          The teacher incorporates a Qik video to help his/her students learn.
-          The teacher can show the students a Qik video from his/her trip to the zoo.
-          The teacher can show the video he/she streamed to Qik of a kangaroo and a monkey.
-          The teacher could interview a zoologist about the characteristics of mammals and stream it to Qik.
-          The class can participate in a discussion and if there are any questions they could have a "live chat" with the zoologist the teacher interviewed.

Evaluation

-          The teacher will have each student choose an animal and describe the characteristic it has that makes it classified as a mammal.
