Hubs There are different kinds of hubs used throughout Wikia which are viewed as small icons/picture buttons.  These hubs are used to help categorize information from the wiki pages.  The different types include Major, Secondary, and Special Hubs.  Major hubs are broad topics.  Secondary hubs are the specific areas of interest.  Special hubs are ones that show the largest and most active or popular pages.  These hubs are useful to find information, especially if the page name would not be recognizable as its content.  Users can add hubs.

Wikia uses MediaWiki to run the wikis on the site. MediaWiki was created for Wikipedia originally but now is used to run many sites. MediaWiki is an "open source PHP-based wiki engine."

Logging in and out:  Logging in is very simple.  From the home page (www.wikia.com) click on any link to proceed to the next page.  In the top right corner there will be a link to log in.  When you click this link a box will appear.  Enter your username and password to continue.  To log out, you simply click the log out link in the top right of any page.  http://help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Log_in_problems 3/30/09

Creating a new page:  There are many ways to create a new page in Wikia.  Here are some of the basic ones.  The first is to simply click on a link that is red.  A red link means that there is not yet a page with that title.  Clicking the link will bring you to an edit page.  A second way to create a page is to make a red link in an existing page. This can be done by editing that existing page.  Another way is to go to the home page for Wikia (www.wikia.com) and click on the red create a wiki link.  http://help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:New_page  3/30/09

Searching:  Searching in Wikia is like many other websites.  On every Wikia page there is a search box in the top left corner of the page. Enter a description of what you are looking for into the box.  http://help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Searching  3/30/09

Adding Images:  There are two ways to add an image to a wiki page.  One way is to first upload an image from your computer to the wiki using the upload link in the toolbox.  Then when you edit the page you can type [[Image:Name.jpg]] into the page editor, where Name.jpg is the name of your picture.  You can also click on the upload button when you are editing a page to insert a picture from Flicker, your computer, or an image already loaded onto the wiki.  http://help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Add_Images  3/30/09

In a Wiki you are able to read what the wiki's community has written. By clicking an "edit" button on an article, you are able to edit the article's text. You can add or change anything you like in the article you are reading. http://computer.howstuffworks.com/wiki.htm
