Lesson Plan: 8 th grade                                     Song Interpretation


Students Will…


Listen to a song of their choice and write a two to three page paper. The paper should include information on the artist, their interpretation, the online interpretation that they found, and a comparison between their interpretation and the one found online. In-text citations should be used in the appropriate locations.

Students Will…


1. Choose a song of his/her choice, print the lyrics, and bring to class to get their song approved for the paper.

2. Once the song is approved students should listen to the song multiple times and write down facts/interpretations. (This should be done at least four times).  Also include a brief paragraph about the artist.

3. Next, students should search online for a quality and cited interpretation of their song. A short summary of their interpretation should be included.

4. Do a comparison between your personal interpretation and the one chosen from online.

5. Make a writing web (planning will be collected).

6. Write a 2-3 page paper over the required topics.

7. Turn in paper on 3-20-12, double-spaced, 12 pt. font, attach rubric.

1. If their song was approved.

2. If all elements listed on the rubric were covered.

3. If length requirement was met.

4. In-text citations/work cited pages were included and done properly.

5. Grammar and Spelling.
