Mathematical Applications

Applied Math for College Students, 100 & 200 levels

This lesson plan is designed to have students use the internet to gain knowledge about mathematical applications. Students will then post videos listing the information they found on Seesmic.

After finding information students should be able to write a paper relating their findings to mathematical applications (e.g. shapes of buildings as functions, graphs of radioactive decay, etc.)

Computer with internet access, webcam, microphone

  1. Use the internet to search for applications of math in the real world focused mostly on functions and functional analysis.
  2. Post this information on a Seesmic video.

After doing this, students will write a 1-1.5 page paper detailing their findings, and will receive a B or better to be considered mastering the topic.
